Some small bits of thoughts

It has been harder than I thought to reflect on my experiences here. It has also been harder than expected to find time in which I can do so on the computer. So yes, to my friends, it is funny to move away from materialism and have a blog about it.

There is a book that Sean (my fiance/other half) has been reading that a friend lent to us: The Ascent of Humanity; Charles Eisenstien. It is about our dependency on science and technology, and how we have come to be this way and how we can diverge from the path. Not to mention why we should, as our current lives keep us from really reaching our potential as beings.
If you think about it, we spend most of our lives sitting. Maybe not most, but a lot. With the invention of computers and television, it has gotten worse. How many hours a day do you spend in the same position? Or trying so hard to just NOT THINK about the day, or the things that have been going on in the world; Or your community, if you don't think on the global scale.
It is amazing the problems this world faces, and our society has been geared towards not acknowledging them, and being concerned for your own survival - or comfort, because, lets face it, how many of us are really trying to survive anymore? I mean, in your immediate vicinity.  The privileged, and yes, we are very privileged, do NOT make up the world. Even though we often forget that not everyone has food. Or water. Or a home. Even in our own cities.

So, what I am out here trying to learn is how people can live with each other, and provide for one another without the Take Take Take attitude that has been rewarded for so long. And if not as far as the take, but the thought of being owed compensation. The thought that "this needs to get done today, so I will do it." Or maybe the thought that "I'm giving back because it is what is right, and it feels good too."
More people seem to be wanting this too. The conversations I have with people lean in this direction quite a bit, and I know it's not me leading it. People seem to want to get back to our communities, and be stronger together. I want to bring these feelings back with me when I return home. I hope to find more people there that want to do the same. <3 <3 <3

Peace and Love seem to be the ultimate message, all over.

  1. A community just makes more sense. It's strange that I live on a block with what, like 12 other houses? I don't know a single person! And of course, I don't feel like going up and trying to introduce myself to every single one and try to get people together. Why is this? Time, energy. These people have their own lives, so should I attempt to interrupt their lives for the sake of bringing them together? hahaha ironically that's exactly what is needed in my opinion. I would love to see a community based society where helping people is an everyday activity. I think it would help people not feel so damn alone in a world that has grown cold from the use of technology. However, I don't think that we should drop technology. I believe it can be very beneficial to us. But the key here is to use it to our benefit and not use it to make us fat slobs who can't do anything for themselves. Hearts to you and seanykins <3
